The Brass Works painted sign facing the bike path is being removed in order to abate the lead paint. During the mock-up phase, we discovered that full removal was too damaging to the brick, so following abatement, there will likely be some remaining image there – that paint that is well adhered.
Last August, Vital Signs photographed the sign and traced a template of it. Next spring, the sign will be repainted which will also serve to encapsulate any remaining paint.
The cast “Madison Brass Works” sign above the Waubesa St. entrance has been stripped and will also be repainted (black background, brass-colored letters).
